After arriving too late to our villa to find much other than Indomie noodles for dinner, I was ready for a proper breakfast. Browsing TripAdvisor for great breakfast and brunch options in Seminyak results in a plethora of options. Revolver won out mostly because it was only a short walk away from our villa and also because reviews touted its hidden location. I’m always a sucker for these Speakeasy-style joints and even though it’s not terribly secret, I was keen to give it a try.
The space
You enter Revolver through a door down a small alleyway along Kaya Aya Street. There is a sign on the main road, and door guys to help you along, so it’s not really hidden, but has that sort of “feel.”
The coffee
I’m a coffee lover and the quality of my morning coffee can make or break my day. I was a bit tempted to hit up Starbucks on my way to breakfast because I know what to expect there, but I’m so glad I didn’t. Revolver was much better. I ordered a hot caramel latte with soy milk and it was stunning. They use a really high-quality soy milk, which might fool you into thinking it’s actually milk. That may not matter to you, but if you’ve recently developed a dairy allergy, it matters! Believe me! The coffee didn’t have any bitter notes, just a smooth, dark, caramel flavor.
The dishes
We tried the smashed avocado on toast with an egg, and the polenta fries. It was more than Miss C and I could eat but I can’t resist a good avocado toast since good avocados are so pricy and hard to come by at home in Bangkok. It was seasoned perfectly and came out on a thick slice of buttery toast.
I just had to try the polenta fries for the simple reason that I’d never heard of polenta fries before. They were tasty, perfectly fried and came out with a mayo-based sauce that while good, I wished was more flavorful.
The Service
The service really shone here. After more than half a decade in restaurant management, I have little patience for poor service in a restaurant, but everything about the service here was top notch.
Kid Friendly?
The name and the fact that one reviewer talked about “guns on the wall” made me unsure if it would be kid-friendly but the cafe was plenty spacious for kids and the servers were accommodating when my picky 3-year old refused to eat anything that I ordered her and brought out some toast with peanut butter for her to try instead.
The Price
Revolver is certainly not the cheapest spot in Bali, but you’ll find tasty food with high-quality ingredients and attentive service. Expect to spend around 90,000 IDR for a brunch main and 30,000 IDR for a latte.
